Riomaggiore is in contact with the nature, the name come from RIVUS MAJOR. Today the river still run through the town under the main street and finish into the sea.

Riomaggiore was funded in 1239 A.D. Today there is 1730 people living in Riomaggiore, Manarola e Volastra.

Coming from La Spezia on the major litoranea road, Riomaggiore is the first town to see from the car, but we suggest to use the train because parking is very limited.

From the park office you can get a 20 minutes permit to unload and load your luggage. Parking is usually 20 euros per day. but from outside the town there are free parking and free transportation to the town.
